A delightful book of impressions in writing
and sketches about life aboard a P. & O. (Peninsular and Oriental)
Steamer ship at the turn of the 20th century. Not without humor, the
author-cum-illustrator regales his readers with tales of the varied
characters he encounters in his travels, eliciting many a chuckle or
gasp of amazement with every turn of the pages. A whimsical and
(mostly) historical account sure to delight the most difficult-to-please
reader.
"Introduction.
The accompanying sketches do not profess to depict in any regular
sequence the many interesting sights invariably to be witnessed during a
voyage on a P. & O. Steamer, but merely record the impressions of
the Artist in a series of sketches, drawn on the spot, and illustrating
any subject which appealed to him at the moment.
It must be borne in mind that each voyage the conditions vary greatly,
and many of the sights to be witnessed on one occasion may readily be
absent upon another. With these explanations the volume is presented,
in the hope that it may afford some interest and amusement to the
reader."
